Indra has signed an agreement with the FAA to supply Surface Awareness Initiative technology to US airports. 

The FAA has added Indra's SAI system, AeroBOSS, to its Qualified Product List, allowing deployment at any of the nation's 450 airports with staffed air traffic control towers.

The Surface Awareness Initiative (SAI) technology uses Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) to receive aircraft position data, transmitting it via satellite and 5G networks to air traffic controllers. This system enhances runway safety by providing real-time surface aircraft movement data.

Indra's SAI system integrates a cloud platform for rapid deployment, improves situational awareness for air traffic controllers, reduces the risk of runway incursions, and enables comprehensive airport safety management.

Indra has successfully implemented the SAI system at Dallas Love Field Airport, one of the busiest in the country. The company expects widespread adoption by large and medium-sized US airports in the coming years. The agreement covers over 250 FAA-staffed air traffic control towers and approximately 200 additional airports in the Federal Contract Tower program.

In a separate development, Indra has renewed its exclusive agreement to supply Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) systems to the FAA, having already delivered over 250 sets. DME systems guide aircraft during approach and en route. Indra also provides air navigation aid systems to the US Air Force and Navy, further establishing its presence in the US aviation technology market.

This framework agreement underscores Indra's commitment to modernizing air traffic management and enhancing aviation safety and efficiency in the US.

The agreement and first deployment of Indra's SAI technology follows the installation of a similar system for surface management at at Indianapolis International Airport and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas by uAvionix and Capital Sciences.
