Spanish ATC and IT systems company Indra is to buy UK-based air traffic communications systems firm Park Air.

Park Air develops and supplies ground-to-air radio systems for the civil and military sectors. Customers include ANSPs, airports, systems Integrators and government and military Organisations.

The company, which was founded in 1966 employs 120 people and is headquartered in Peterborough, UK with a partner and distribution network covering 100 countries. The company has been part of Northrop Grumman since 1996

Ground to Air radios enable communication with aircraft during take-off, flight and landing.

Indra has no proprietary radio product.

Marc Murtra, president of Indra said, “This acquisition provides us with engineering and production capabilities for complex electronic systems. These capabilities are very synergetic with our current portfolio and can be used to grow our business with existing customers and develop new lines of business for Aerospace and Defence and Mobility.”

José Vicente de los Mozos, CEO of Indra said, “We are looking forward to exploring the growth opportunity for Civil and Military Air Traffic Management. We are ready for realizing the synergies between our centres in Spain, Norway and the USA through an integrated view of the global market.”

Park Air and Indra are both partners in the FAA’s NEXCOM Version 3 procurement program, which will replace existing enroute ground-to-air radios in the USA which are reaching end-of-life.

The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of this year and is subject to customary conditions.
